Store Operations Council 2020

The retail sector has transformed exponentially within the previous six months, with COVID-19 putting a stop to most retail and supply chain operations. As a result, retailers have needed to be robust and adapt to the new way of reaching their customers. At the event, SML, alongside Dean Frew, our CTO and SVP of RFID Solutions, will be on hand to discuss our latest item-level technology and RFID inlays/tags that are helping retailers better serve their customers efficiently and safely. He will also discuss how retailers can utilize RFID across their entire business to clear any backlog of old stock and kick-start their supply chains as we head into the new normal.

Prior to reopening their doors, we found that one of the biggest challenges’ retailers face is around establishing a clear base-line inventory position. Having previously surveyed a large number of apparel and footwear retailers throughout North America and Europe to determine their key concerns before they open stores again, we determined that the importance of having a clear view of their inventory was of higher importance to retailers than improving online order fulfilment and the management of returns. This has been an ongoing concern across the retail industry and as the cloud of uncertainty lifts, inventory accuracy is key.

During lockdown, retailers found themselves with more inventory than ever throughout their supply chain, most of which was planned to sell months ago. In order to bounce back, businesses need to address their bloated stock and empty pipeline of new inventory. By utilizing item-level RFID technology, retailers can regain control of their inventory accuracy and ensure their operations are back up and running smoothly.

Launched in 2012, The Store Operations Council Meeting provides retailers with a forum to discuss and explore the latest innovations with the industry; providing the opportunity to meet and network with some of the leading figures within the space. In addition to attracting leading retailers – including Home Depot, Best Buy, Sephora and Nike – the event aims to shed light on new retail practices processes around BOPIS and Curbside in addition to how to effectively manage inventory during COVID-19.

The Store Operations Council Meeting is free for retailers to attend. If you are interested in attending, please email Florence Lo on flo@sml-rfid.com
