SML’s Year in Review: Leading Retail Innovation in 2023

As we look back on an eventful year, we take a moment to reflect on our achievements throughout 2023. An expansion into the Middle East, being awarded the Auburn Radio Compliance (ARC) Quality certification and new branding are just a few of our recent milestones that have had a significant impact on our success this year. We have experienced various transformations, yet our ethos and values remain steadfast: to deliver best-in-class brand identification and RFID solutions, as well as proven ROI for retailers.

Reinforcing Excellence

In July this year, we were awarded the ARC Quality certification for our inlay manufacturing process. This accreditation is awarded by the RFID Lab at Auburn University, an organization widely recognized for benchmarking excellence standards of RFID tags and inlays. Receiving the 2023 accreditation is a testament to the quality standards of our RFID inlays and proves our commitment to excellence. For over a decade, our inlay models have been approved by Auburn’s RFID lab, demonstrating how we have consistently held the highest standards for our customers in designing and developing high-quality and high-performing RFID inlays.

Middle East Expansion

Following years of experience in the Middle East, which saw us deliver over 150 million RFID tags and deployed Clarity® RFID software in over 100 stores, we unveiled a new label​​ and RFID solutions services location in Dubai, UAE. The launch of our Middle East operations has allowed us to deliver our brand identification solutions to the dynamic and growing region, Statista eCommerce reports suggest the Dubai apparel and retail market is expected to grow $3.2 billion by 2027. This expansion has demonstrated our commitment to the Middle East and enabled us to help customers prosper.

A New Company Look

SML is continually looking for new ways to innovate and earlier this year, we announced a brand refresh which included a new logo, website, and a series of updated visual identities.  We began as a woven label provider in Hong Kong and has since grown into a global digital identification solutions specialist in labeling and RFID technology. The new look also reflects our dedication to driving innovation forward and promoting sustainability with agility and speed, delivering technology-enabled, value-driven solutions that fulfill the specific demands of various businesses and propel them forward.

Looking Ahead

Success is not an endpoint, but a continuous journey. Today’s retail environment is fast-moving and constantly evolving and brands must keep up with new trends to ensure they have a competitive advantage. The accomplishments we achieved as a company have shown we are constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation and looking for new ways to improve.
